Our lithium battery pack.
We get asked all the time about lithium batteries, so here they are. The reason we chose not to have them installed as standard is due to the expense of them over the actual benefit they provide, there is so much power and torque in our brushless motors that the need for a lighter lithium battery is simply not worth the investment.
Here are the pro’s to upgrading your 48V quad to a lithium battery pack.
- Will reduce the weight of your quad by 8kg, thus making it a little easier to lift and handle
- Will reduce your charging time by around 25-30 minutes
- Increases the acceleration and top speed of the quad due to power/weight ratio, however in our test of lead acid vs lithium we could not visibly tell any noticeable performance difference.
Here are the cons
- It is recommended you to fabricate additional protection for the case the bettery will be housed in (lithium batteries can be dangerous if punctured)
- Requires you to cut and solder your original + and – battery wires then add to the new battery
- Expensive
In short unless you require a complete new battery pack the lithium battery is simply not worth the investment for an upgrade.
